Southampton Weekly Salaries

Edit:  The most up-to-date version of this post can be found here.

I am posting this here because it is interesting to me and I want to be able to find it again in the future if I need to refer to it.  It will be easier to find on my blog than in my messy pile of notes.  There will be no analysis or commentary in this post.  It is merely a summary of the weekly salaries of Southampton’s players according to FM 2015.  The figures are in thousands of pounds.

Obviously, I have no idea how accurate these figures are and they do not take into account performance bonuses.  On the other hand, last summer when I was considering Financial Fair Play issues FM’s base salaries fairly closely corresponded to the information released by the club for the players’ salaries as a group.
Alderweireld                      £78
Ramirez                               £55
Osvaldo                               £54
Long                                     £50
Mane                                   £45
Tadic                                    £42
Forster                                 £40
Pelle                                     £37
Bertrand                              £35
Wanyama                           £34
Schneiderlin                       £34
S. Davis                               £34  (Signed new contract since data base published.)
Fonte                                  £34
Boruc                                  £32
Gardos                                £30
Rodriguez                           £28
Clyne                                   £27
Cork                                     £25
Mayuka                               £23
Yoshida                               £22.5  (Signed new contract since data base published.)
Ward-Prose                        £20
Hooiveld                             £18
K. Davis                               £16
Gazzaniga                           £14
Gallagher                            £10
Reed                                     £10
I will stop it there.  The total of all these number is £847.5 per week or £44,070,000 per year.  Add in a couple of million for all the other youth players and it looks like our annual salary is well below the £56 million per year minimum cap.  So on a salary cap basis (but possibly not on a cash flow basis) there is room for at least £192K per week in raises or new player salaries.  Frankly, I would like to see the club offer Schneiderlin, Wanyama, and Clyne £50K per week raises to sign new long term contracts, but maybe we need to save the money in case we can sign Toby.  Or maybe there just plain isn't that kind of money right now.  Oops, I have strayed into analysis and commentary.  I will stop now.

  1. Crazy that we have such a small squad, paid at pretty low levels n we can't fir in another couple of players or give anyone a raise.
Or squads pay doesn't even ado up to 3 rooneys.

    This FFP is such bullsh*t.

You can't expand until you have more revenue. But you can't generate that until you increase support which relies on big name players etc.

  2. Boruc and Hooiveld will be off the wage role next season, but Osvaldo and Ramirez may not be so will distort the following rule of thumb by me.
Assuming the max we could spend next season will be £60m (so excluding increased commercial revenue) for a 25 man squad (PL max) this equates to an average of £46k per week per player.
For every U21 in this squad on £25k, or less, means a senior pro could earn close to £60k.
This would make us a viable proposition for the emerging talent both in England and across europe
