When I first read this, my thought was “Why Shouldn’t Southampton be the big club he manages? After all, I had no trouble winning the Champions League with Southampton in Football Manager 2010, 2012, and 2013.”
More seriously, no American professional athlete would tout his manager to move to a bigger and better team. If the athlete spoke up at all, he would be expressing confidence that the manager could lead the team to the World Series or the Superbowl. This was the moment when I understood just how different professional soccer (and, yes, in this context, I must call it "soccer") is.
